The Outsiders-Chapters9/10

Chapter 9 is where the rumble took place. The greasers were to meet the Socs at the vacant lot. The rules were no weapons allowed. The Greasers arrived first, they had 20 people on their side, then the Socs arrive and they had 22 people on their team. The were all standing facing each other on either side in 2 long lines, then Darry stepped forward and said “I’ll take on anyone.” One guy stepped up named Paul, they started circling each other. Then a familiar voice yelled “HOLD UP!” and Darry turned to see who it was, then the Paul guy swung at him right in the jaw. It was Dally, he just got out from the hospital and was in the rumble.

In the end of the rumble, the Greasers won. After the rumble Dally and Ponyboy ran to the hospital to see Johnny, and tell him that the Greasers won, then he died. I don’t think even Dally could handle this, he said “Dammit Johnny…” then pounded his fist into the wall, “Oh dammit, Johnny, don’t die, please don’t die…” Then ran out the door and down the hall. it was the first time Ponyboy had ever seen Dally show that kind of emotion. It had been the first time he’d seen Dally care for anyone but himself.

Ponyboy made it home somehow and was passed out. He’d had a concussion from getting kicked in the head by one of the Socs. he kept trying to convince himself that Johnny and Dally were alive.

I think this chapter is all about survival, who survived and who didn’t. Dally and Johnny both died. Ponyboy was so lucky he didn’t die. He’d been through a lot with being hurt from the fire, then the fever before the rumble, then he got a concussion. Ponyboy was very lucky to have survived.
