Chapters 5&6 was all about heroism. Johnny and Ponyboy saved five kids from a fire! When they decide to turn themselves in this will help their record because their heroes now. It all started out when…
Johnny and Ponyboy just seemed like criminals to me. Hiding out in the church from the cops. All that time, they ahd nothing to do. Then Dally came to see them, like he told them he would when they went to ask for his help.
Dally took Ponyboy and Johnny out to Dairy Queen to get food as soon as he got there. When they were eating, Johnny told Dally that they have decided to turn themselves in, because he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life hiding out from cops in an old church. He thinks he’ll get in less trouble because it was self defense and because he confessed. Which is mostly true. Dally gets kind of angry at first because he spent that whole week covering for them. They decide that they won’t turn Dally in for helping them out and they’ll hitchhike back so Dally doesn’t get in trouble from them.
When the three of them are heading back to the church they see that’s it’s on fire. They think it must have been from a litten cigarette. There was a crowd of kids at the front, supposedly they ahd been having a school picnic and the church just went up in flames.
A few of the kids had been playing in the church and they were still stuck in there. So Johnny and Dally decide that they are gonna go save them and not wait for the firefighters to come. When they save the five kids that were in there Dally yells that they gotta make their way out fast because the roof is caving in. So Ponyboy jumps out the window but Johnny didnt make it out. Dally slaps his back because it was in flames, but then he goes to save Johnny.
When Ponyboy wakes up he realizes he is in the ambulance with one of the teachers. In the waiting room he finds out Johnny is unconsious, but he’s okay and so is Dally. Sodapop and Darrel come to the waiting room and Darrel’s crying, it’s just then he realizes how much Darry really does care about him and that it was silly to run away.
